A Lahaina man suffered fatal injuries in an industrial accident at West Maui Land Company this morning.  The man, identified as 63-year-old Alfredo Sarian, was found stuck in a commercial wood chipper with his body severed from his head to chest.  Authorities responded to the scene at approximately 8:38 a.m. near 809 Olowalu Village Road in the area of Olowalu Landing.  There, detectives confirmed the man to have expired on scene.  According to Lahaina Detectives, Sarian, who was the lone operator of the machine, attempted to grab for a branch from within, when he was pulled inside.  A co-worker responded and shut down the machine after hearing Sarian yell.  Acting Sgt. Tanya Dods with the Maui Police Department said Sarian was an 18 year employee with Pioneer Mill, had been working with West Maui Land Company for 7 years, and was expected to retire this month.  He is survived by his wife, Esther, two sons, brothers, sisters, and grandchildren.  (Posted:  7:00 p.m. Thursday, December 18, 2008 by Wendy Osher, Pacific Radio Group)
