HANA BOAT RAMP, KULA HOSPITAL INCLUDED IN $67 M CIP REQUEST

East Maui’s Hana Boat Ramp and Upcountry’s Kula Hospital are included in a $67 million Capital Improvement Project request being considered this legislative session. Senator J. Kalani English, of Maui who introduced the bill (SB708), included items from the 6^th senatorial “canoe” district he represents-which encompasses the islands of Molokai, Lanai and Kahoolawe, Hana and east and upcountry Maui. The communities reflect vastly different CIP needs as reflected in the funding requests.

Specific proposals include $3.5 million for the design and construction of a new Hana boat ramp, $3.7 million for the design and construction of an Upcountry Reservoir, $1.5 million for the design and construction of a Nahiku Community Center, and $1.7 million for upgrades at Kula Hospital. The projects are among a list of 20 included in the bill which was introduced on January 23^rd and has a current referral for review before the Senate Ways and Means Committee.
