PAVING WORK IN KAUPO TO TRIGGER INTERMITTENT ROAD CLOSURES

The county begins work Monday, April 13, 2009, to repave a portion of the historic Piilani Highway in Kaupo that will require intermittent road closures for approximately a week and a half.  The $539,000 project includes a half-mile stretch near Manawainui Gulch between mileposts 26 and 27.  Contractor, Maui Paving, plans to beginning from the Hana side and move West toward Ulupalakua with completion scheduled for April 24th.  Delays could last up to 30 minutes when work is in progress.

The state Department of Transportation will work to remove loose debris from a portion of the Hana Highway next week.  Rock scaling operations will take place on Tuesday, April 14th between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m.  Motorists can expect traffic stoppages near mile post 21 in Wailuanui while work is in progress.  Roadwork is weather-permitting.
