Lahaina Man Dies in Early Morning Crash

A Maui man suffered fatal injuries in a single car crash in West Maui early this morning.  19-year-old Edyngton Naki Jr. of Lahaina died at the scene of the accident as a result on injuries sustained in the crash.

The accident was reported at 2:19 a.m. on Wainee Street.  Authorities say the man was traveling north when he lost control of the 2002 Lincoln sedan he was driving, and collided into a tree.  The driver was pinned within his vehicle as the car caught fire, according to police reports.

The accident was the 20th motor vehicle fatality in Maui County this year.  The use of a seatbelt and other factors remain under investigation.
