Bailey House Gets Grant For Museum Software

The Maui Historical Society/Bailey House Museum has received a $10,000 Organizational Capacity Building Program grant from the Hawaii Community Foundation.  This grant along with donations by the Rotary Club of Maui and former Trustee Zadoc Brown Jr. has allowed Maui Historical Society to purchase a new computer and Museum Software.

Museum administrators say digitizing the collections will significantly increase Maui Historical Society’s ability to serve the public.  The technology upgrade is expected to improve research capacity by centralizing records, improving efficiency, and making document, photograph and artifact collections easier to search and more accessible.

The improvements are aimed at increasing use of the Archival Resource Center by the public, including students, authors, researchers, historians, and the media.

The Archival Resource Center at the Bailey House preserves and makes available for research a library of published materials and an archive, which included maps, manuscripts, genealogies, biographies, and the documents of various organizations and businesses, as well as a photo collection of over 8,000 historic Maui photographs.  Research hours are by appointment Monday through Saturday, 10:00 am to 12:00 pm and 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm.  To make an appointment, the public can call 244-3326.

The Maui Historical Society was founded in 1951 and is the oldest historical and preservation society on Maui.
