Six-story Medical Plaza project planned for Kahului Industrial area

An Environmental Assessment is being prepared for a proposed six-story Medical Plaza building in Kahului.  The 2.5-acre site is located along the Hana Highway in the Kahului Harbor Industrial subdivision and borders the Kanaha Pond Wildlife Sanctuary. 

The project is proposed by Kanaha Professional Plaza LLC and would include 132,000 square feet of space for physicians’ offices, medical laboratories, and a six story parking structure to accommodate 365 off-street parking stalls.  The Maui Planning Commission will serve as the approving agency for both the EA and SMA Use Permit.    

According to the Draft EA, lease commitments have been received for over 64,000 square feet of medical space at the proposed facility within one year of the inception of the proposed development concept.  The proposed Maui Medical Plaza at Kanaha is intended to address a shortage of medical office space on Maui. 

In the meantime, a Draft EA was filed on July 23, 2010 and is currently open for a 30-day public comment period.
