High winds are expected across Maui County through Friday night. The National Weather Service has continued a wind advisory for Maui, Lanai, Kahoolawe and the Summit of Haleakala through 6 p.m. on Friday.

Winds are expected to be in the 25 to 35 mph range with gusts up to 50 mph expected in areas where winds are accelerated by terrain including the southeast coast and central portions of Maui.

The increased winds are the result of a strong high pressure system north of the state.

Winds of advisory strength can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.  Drivers should take extra caution to secure any loose objects that may become airborne, or move them inside.
