A high surf advisory has been issued for the North and West facing shores of Maui County until noon on Monday, Jan. 17, 2011. Surf along the north shores will rise to 16-22 feet, which surf along the west shores will increase to 8-14 feet.

The west swell is expected to produce larger than normal surf along the shores in the Kihei area of Maui. The surf is expected to result in localized beach erosion and coastal flooding along west facing shores, especially during overnight high tide.

A high tide of approximately 2.6 feet is expected between 1:16 a.m. and 2:34 a.m. Sunday morning. The next high tide of approximately 1.2 feet is expected between 11:13 a.m. and 12:31 p.m. Sunday afternoon.

Beach goers are urged to stay out of the water and well away from the shore break due to strong rip currents and hazardous wave action.
