Cost of School Lunch Increases March 1, 2011
By Wendy Osher
School meal prices will increase in March under a law passed in 2009. Act 26 ensures that meal prices better reflect the cost of preparing the meals, with the meal price to be at least one half the cost of meal preparation.
Lunch prices will increase 15 cents to $2.35 for a regular student lunch, while breakfast will increase 5 cents to $1 for students who are on the regular plan. The cost of reduced price lunches are unchanged for both breakfast ($0.30) and lunch ($0.40).
The cost for second and subsequent student breakfasts increases 10 cents to $2. The cost for second student entry at lunch increases 10 cents to $1.85, and the cost for a second student lunch goes up 30 cents to $4.70.
Adult breakfast prices increase 10 cents to $2, while adult lunch increases 30 cents to $4.70.
The new prices go into effect on March 1st. School meal prices were last raised on January 1, 2010.
