Baldwin girls seeded third, Seabury fourth in state soccer

The seeding committee for this week’s state girls soccer tournaments again mapped out a difficult road for the MIL’s four representatives.

MIL Division-I champion Baldwin was seeded third and Seabury Hall was seeded fourth, of which there is no complaint.

What bothers is that the committee invariably takes care of the OIA by placing the more considerable hurdles of teams from the powerful ILH in the path of MIL teams early in the competition. Teams from the Big Island, meantime, generally are bracketed against teams from the less-demanding OIA.

And so it will be again this year. MIL runnerup Kamehameha-Maui will meet Kaiser in Wednesday’s opening round, with the survivor facing top-seeded Punahou in Thursday’s quarterfinals at the Waipio Soccer Complex on Oahu.

Baldwin will draw a first-round bye before tangling against the winner of Iolani versus Kapolei on Thursday.

The other seeded teams in D-I are No. 2 Mililani and No. 4 Hilo.

In D-II, MIL runnerup St. Anthony opens against Kamehameha-Hawaii on Wednesday. The winner faces second-seeded Leilehua.

Seabury meets the winner of Mid-Pacific versus Kalaheo on Thursday.

The other seeded teams in D-II are No. 1 Hawaii Prep and No. 3 Kauai High.

In other prep action over the weekend, Kamehameha-Oahu swept all three events in the state paddling championships. Seabury was second in mixed, sixth in girls and eighth in boys. Molokai girls were third and Kamehameha-Maui fifth in girls.

As expected, Lahainaluna dominated the MIL wrestling championships by capturing both the boy’s and girls’ divisions.
