High Surf Advisory Canceled for E Shores 2/18/11

The High Surf advisory for East facing shores has since  been canceled.  Surf along east facing shored dropped just below the 8 foot advisory threshold this morning, allowing for the advisory cancellation.

A High Surf Advisory has been extended for the East facing shores of Maui and Molokai until 6 o’clock tonight.

Forecasters from the National Weather Service say surf will be in the 6 to 9 foot range today, dropping below advisory levels tonight.  Forecast surf heights are estimates of the height of the face or front of waves.

Beach goers are urged to stay out of the water and well away from the shore break along affected shorelines.  A High Surf Advisory means that beaches in the advisory area will be prone to rip currents, localized beach erosion, and hazardous wave action.

A high tide of approximately 2.0 feet is expected between 2:42 p.m. and 4 p.m. today.
