In the wake of Thursday’s earthquake and tsunami, Mobi PCS is offering customers and the public free calls to Japan through Sunday, March 13.

Mobi PCS has set up special phones for the general public to use at its 13 Hawaii locations. Existing Mobi PCS customers can make free calls to Japan on their existing Mobi phones.

“As a local carrier, we watched the events in Japan in horror, but realized that we might be able to help,” explained Bill Jarvis, Mobi PCS president and CEO, today in a written statement. “International calls to Japan are expensive, but it’s a small gift that we want to make to the community.”

As a courtesy, Mobi PCS asks that callers avoid tying up lines unnecessarily, and refrain from extended conversations.

On Maui, Mobi is available in Kahului at the Queen Kaahumanu Center or in Kihei in the Azeka Shopping Center. There are also nine Mobi PCS locations on Oahu, two on the Big Island, and is available through dealers on Molokai and Lanai.
