It’s going to be a blustery day at the upper elevations on Maui.  The National Weather Service issued a Wind Advisory for the Summit of Haleakala until 6 p.m. Wednesday, March 23, 2011.

The forecast calls for east winds up to 40 mph with higher gusts of up to 50 mph today.

The windy weather is being generated by a strengthening high pressure system north of the state. Trade winds atop Haleakala are expected to reach advisory levels later this morning.

Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.  The public is advised to use extra caution by securing any loose objects that may become airborne.
