Governor Neil Abercrombie will be the Keynote speaker at the upcoming Spring Commencement for the University of Hawai’i Maui College.

The event takes place Sunday, May 15th, 2011 at 1 p.m. at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center, Castle Theater.

“We are privileged that Governor Abercrombie agreed to address our 2011 graduates,” said Jonathon McKee, Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs.  “His commitment to higher education and UH Maui College is greatly appreciated by the campus community,” said McKee.

Due to limited space, the event is by invitation only.

A separate commencement ceremony is planned for students of the University of Hawaiʻi Center at UHMC who take their classes online or through videoconferencing at the Kahului campus.  While students physically attend class on Maui, they receive their degrees from either UH Manoa, West Oahu or Hilo.  There commencement will be held on Friday, May 13th, 5:30 p.m. at the Maui Beach Hotel, Elleair Rainbow Ballroom.

The Center’s graduation is open to the public, but tickets are required for reserved seating. For information, contact uctrmaui@hawaii.edu.
