Four Maui Teams Claim State Soccer Titles

There will be a definite Valley Isle presence during this summer’s Far West Regional soccer tournament.

That’s because five teams – including four from Maui United – qualified for the June 20-26 event in Boise Idaho.

Four of those teams earned berths by winning their respective divisions during the past weekend’s State Cup competition at the Waipio Peninsula Soccer Complex on Oahu.

The Maui United 94 girls captured under-17 title, the MUSC 96 boys took top honors in under-15, Maui Elite finished first in under-13 and the MUSC99 Red boys won the under-12 crown.

Also, the Maui United 94 boys earned a wild card berth after finishing second in the under-17 division.

The MUSC 94 girls claimed the most dramatic victory, edging Ka Oi Express 2-1 on a goal by Maya Palaron with two minutes remaining. Amber-Lei Madriaga scored the first goal for her team, which claimed a second state title.

The MUSC 94 boys won their final game 3-0 over Rush Nike on two goals by Nick Lawrence and another by Clayton Robinson.

MUSC 99 Red topped the Honolulu Bulls 2-0 on goals by Angelo Deloso-Flacco and Noah Harrisson.

Maui Elite clinched the title with a 3-0 win over Abunai.

MUSC 94 boys cruised to a 5-0 win over Mililani SC as Matteus Thompson put away two goals, with Alika Ribao, Willy Harris and Richie Rivera also scoring.
