High Surf Advisory S Shores CANCELED

The National Weather Service has extended a high surf advisory for the south shores of all islands until 6 p.m. Thursday, April 21, 2011.

Surf along the south facing shores will be 6-8 feet with locally higher sets. Forecasters say surf heights will gradually decline today into Friday.

Beaches in the advisory area will produce large breaking waves, hazardous rip currents and localized beach erosion.

A high surf advisory is in effect through Thursday morning, April 21, due to elevated surf from a long period south swell.

The National Weather Service issued the advisory for the south facing shores of Maui County through 6 a.m. Thursday.  Surf along affected shorelines is expected to be in the 6 to 9 foot range, peaking Wednesday afternoon and evening, before gradually declining on Thursday and Friday.

The advisory surf will result in localized beach erosion, rip currents, and hazardous wave action.  As a precaution, beach goers are urged to stay out of the water and well away from the shore break.

A high tide of approximately 2.7 feet is expected between 4:03 p.m. and 5:21 p.m. tonight. The next high tide of approximately 1.5 feet is expected between 2:58 a.m. and 4:16 a.m. Thursday morning.
