Angie Westfall, New Official Keeper State’s Historical Places Register

Businesses seeking new building modifications on historic buildings will now be working with a new architecture branch chief at the Department of Land and Natural Resources’ (DLNR) State Historic Preservation Department (SHPD).

Angie Westfall was recently appointed to that position and will oversee the three branches of SHPD:  History and Culture, Archaeology, and Architecture. SHPD is the official keeper of the Hawai‘i Register of Historic Properties and responsible for maintaining the register and assisting in the nomination procedures for both the Hawai‘i and National registers. Additionally, all requests for building modifications are assessed by SHPD for impacts on the historic properties.

“We are pleased to announce Ms. Westfall’s appointment as SHPD architecture branch chief,” said William J. Aila, Jr., Chairperson, in a written statement released today. “Her education and work experience are needed to improve the division’s ability to maintain its core functions and preserve and sustain reminders of earlier times which link the past to the present.”

Westfall comes to Hawaii from Santa Barbara, California where she worked as an architectural project manager at Conceptual Motion. She is also a graduate of Kailua High School and the University of Hawaii.
