Ahumanu “No Ku’uipo” CD Release Party
By Wendy Osher
Day one of a two-day CD release party is already sold out, but there’s still time to witness the reverie of Ahumanu as they prepare to launch their sophomore album, No Ku’uipo.
As a followup to their first album, The Gathering, Liz “Kopa’a Tita” Morales and Joni DeMello join forces again for a unique blend of traditional and contemporary compositions that are smart and sophisticated, yet fun and gentle.
The title track, No Ku’uipo Nei Aloha, by Ki’ope Raymond speaks of an enduring and unconditional love; while the fast paced Na Wahi Pana by DeMello takes you on a journey through the sacred places of Maui. Another track, Ha’o’u, written by Morales, speaks of her childhood memories of voices, music and laughter at her family gathering place of Ha’o’u, in East Maui.
The 12-track album under the Ululoa Productions label, features seven new compositions. Guests musicians include Josh Kahula, Russ Ka’a’a, Jesse Smith, and Kristine Snyder.
The album will be available for purchase on July 12, 2011, with a CD release party planned on Friday and Saturday, July 15 and 16, 2011 at Stella Blues Cafe in Kihei. Tickets are $60 for Dinner and the Show, or $30 for the show only. Reservations are a must. Call (808) 874-3779 to purchase tickets.
