Power Restored to Huelo, Nahiku and Hana
By Wendy Osher
Crews from Maui Electric Co. restored power to customers in East Maui following an outage reported this morning.
The outage stretched from Huleo to Hana town beginning shortly after 9 a.m. Power was restored to customers from Huelo to Nahiku at 11:46 a.m., and to remaining customers in Hana at around 1 p.m.
Company officials say the outage was caused by a problem with reclosure equipment in Peahi. MECO Communications Supervisor, Kau`i Awai-Dickson explained, “A reclosure is a complex form of a circuit breaker which protects the electrical transmission system from temporary voltage surges.”
MECO apologized for the inconvenience and thanked the East Maui community for patience as crews worked to restore power and investigate the cause of the outage.
