A fugitive sex offender from Montana was arrested on Maui.  Joseph Lee Guseman, 31, of Glendive, Montana was arrested during the raid of a Kahului residence at around 11:15 a.m. yesterday (Wednesday, July 27, 2011).

Guseman was initially arrested by Dawson County Sheriffs on June 21 in Montana on three counts of criminal obscenity.  He was later charged with an additional four counts of Sexual Intercourse Without Consent of a Minor and four counts of Sexual Abuse of Children.  The victim, authorities say, was a 14-year-old girl.

Before investigators could arrest Guseman on new more serious charges, he posted bail and fled Montana.

Through an investigation the U.S. Marshals tracked the fugitive to Maui, where he was arrested without incident.  The raid yesterday was led by Deputy U.S. Marshals, Maui Police Department Officers, and Hawaii State Deputy Sheriffs.

Guseman was turned over to Maui Police and is awaiting an extradition hearing to be sent back to Montana.
