The National Weather Service has issued a Small Craft Advisory for the Maalaea Bay area of Maui until 6 p.m. today, Thursday, July 28, 2011.

The advisory is also in effect for the Pailolo and Alenuihaha Channels.

The advisory is the result of locally strong trade winds expected in and around Maui County and the Big Island.  Forecasters with the National Weather Service say northeast winds will be enhanced as a weak low-level trough moves across the state.

Winds are expected to be blowing from the northeast at 25 knots, gradually diminishing by early tonight.

As a precaution, mariners, especially those operating small vessels, should avoid navigating in affected waters.
