Henry Kapono to Perform This Friday
By Kristin Hashimoto
His career has spanned decades, 15 solo albums, a Grammy Award nomination and numerous Na Hoku Hanohano awards. Henry Kapono Ka’aihue will play, talk story, and sing onstage at the Maui Arts and Cultural Center on August 19, from 7:30 p.m. in the McCoy Studio Theater.
Many people know him from his days with Cecilio Rodriguez from their band, C&K. While making a name for themselves, recording 12 albums together, and becoming a legendary duo in Hawaii, both pursued side projects and personal interests that eventually led them into more individual performances.
This Friday, Kapono will weave his stories into his masterful playing, to entertain and invite the audience into his world for a night. Throughout his career, Kapono has kept his heritage and his aloha spirit vibrant in his music and writing. The audience will have the opportunity to get to know Kapono and his perspectives and experiences while traveling the globe, interacting with different cultures, and experiencing life.
Tickets are available at the MACC box office for $25, or $45 for a VIP ticket, which enables the holder to meet and greet this icon of Hawaiian music. Call 242-7469, or visit www.mauiarts.org.
