Local Fashion Designers to Show Couture at the MACC
By Kristin Hashimoto
Beautiful clothes and people will strut down the runway on September 3, at 6:00 p.m. at the Maui Arts and Cultural Center. This night of high fashion and art will feature the latest collections of aloha wear and island couture from local designers.
Hailing from O’ahu, Anne Namba will show her collection, while designers Bernard Foong and Maggie Coulombe will represent Maui. The University of Hawaii at Maui College will also show their Couture Club student collection.
This night of glamour will be made complete with cocktails, appetizers, and must-have accessories to drool over and perhaps purchase. Andy South, Season 8 Finalist from the reality television show, “Project Runway,” will be the host for the evening.
Stay for the after-party with dancing and music DJ’d by CIA, until 10:00 p.m. Tickets are $35 for general admission and $100 for the VIP package. A gourmet boxed meal is included in the VIP package. If you’re feeling hungry before the show, check out Vasi’s Gourmet Catering during the pre-show dinner. With crab cakes, almond ricotta cake, vegetable torte and assorted sweets to choose from, no one will go hungry, unless, you’re part of the crew who’s walking the runway.
Food service begins at 5:30 p.m. and the fashion show begins at 7:00 p.m. This fashion show is in conjunction with the exhibition, “Hawaii’s Alfred Shaheen: Fabric to Fashion.” For more information visit www.mauiarts.org, or call 808-242-7469.
