A big weekend of sports is tap, with most of the attention firmly  focused on football.  And three of the biggest games will be aired live on Maui stations affiliated with the Pacific Radio Group.

Locally, it’s the big prep showdown between the two programs that have dominated the MIL over the past decade, or so.  Baldwin and Lahainaluna will square off in a 7 p.m. game before an anticipated large crowd at War Memorial Stadium.  Tomorrow night, King Kekaulike visits across-the-street rival Kamehameha-Maui. Both games will be aired on ESPN 550.

On Oahu, the University of Hawaii – led by star quarterback Bryant Moniz — kicks off its season by facing Colorado on Saturday at Aloha Stadium.   The game is scheduled for a 4:15 p.m. kickoff and will be aired on AM 900.

Two Maui boys – defensive tackle Kaniela Tuipulotu and offensive guard Andrew Faaumu – are scheduled to start against the Buffaloes.

On the mainland, a pair of huge early-season games with national implications on Saturday.  No. 3 Oregon will square off against No. 4 LSU at Cowboys Stadium in Dallas.  That game will be aired on ESPN 550 starting at 2 p.m.   Also on Saturdy, No. 5 Boise State plays a virtual road game against No. 19 Georgia.

Meantime, the 10th-ranked Rainbow Wahine improved their volleyball record to 4-0 with a stunning demolition of No. 22 Ohio State last night at the Stan Sberrif Center by scores of 25-18, 25-23, 25-14. Senior Chanteal Satele led the Wahine with 11 kills.  Those matches will air on OC Sports.
