On Friday, September 9th around 9 p.m., Oracle software held another secret concert this week in Wailea on the Four Seasons Resort ocean-front lawn. This event featured previous Matchbox Twenty singer Rob Thomas, who performed a mellow set with a modest back-up band.
The hush preceding the secret concert pervaded throughout the event. Under 100 pedestrians who were not formally invited to the event showed up quietly on the beachfront and along the path in front of the resort to enjoy the music under the nearly full moon.
Though the concert began slightly later than scheduled, Rob Thomas made up for the lost time with his performance. He sang several popular Matchbox Twenty songs such as “3 a.m.,” “Disease,” and “Bent,” all performed acoustically, creating a more intimate atmosphere.
Before each song, Thomas addressed the audience by sharing an anecdote about the song. He described the song “Bent” as, “a love song for those who are really screwed up.”
Thomas continued, “If you could find someone who is as screwed up as you in all the same ways, you might just make it work together. That’s what this song is about.”
