UH Men Plan Return Hoops Trip to Maui
By Fred Guzman
Athletic Director Jim Donovan continues to follow through on his promise to bring University of Hawaii events to the Neighbor Islands generally and Maui specifically.
He announced yesterday that the UH men’s basketball team is planning to make a return trip to the Valley Isle, this time facing North Carolina A&T on Friday, Dec. 18, at War Memorial Gymnasium.
The Rainbows also played on Maui last year, romping to an easy victory over Chicago State at the Lahaina Civic Center.
But a men’s volleyball match between UH and Cal Baptist attracted an overflow crowd to War Memorial, probably prompting UH to make the switch in venues.
The Bows also will play against UH-Hilo in Kona two days before the game in Wailuku.
Another UH team will be visiting Kahului for a fall softball scimmage game against UH-Hilo at Patsy Mink Field on the Maui High campus. The exhibition is set for a noon start on Saturday, Nov. 12. Tickets will be priced at $10 for adults and $5 for students ages 12 and under.
The 11th-ranked Rainbow Wahine bring an 8-1 volleyball record into matches Friday and Saturday versus No. 21 Pepperdine at the Stan Sheriff Center. The soccer team is on the road this weekend for matches in Las Vegas versus San Diego State on Friday and UNLV on Sunday.
