Wailuku Library Beefing Up Business Collection

The Maui Friends of the Library awarded a $3,500 grant to Wailuku Public Library for the purchase of a collection of new books with timely topics such as saving money, going back to college, finding a new job, and growing your business.

More than 240 titles were selected to help patrons help themselves through tough economic times. The titles include books and audio books that provide advice on how to find and successfully apply for a job, how to invest and plan for retirement, how to use social media marketing to improve your bottom line, and much more.

The collection will be on display at Wailuku Public Library through the end of October and may be borrowed with a valid library card.

In addition to this collection, the Hawaii State Public Library System offers patrons other job-seeking services such as online databases and resources on their website (www.librarieshawaii.org), civil service exam materials, and college and career information.

“The donation from the Maui Friends of the Library will allow the librarians at Wailuku Public Library to expertly select materials that will complement existing materials in the collection as well as bring in the cutting-edge authors in the business and jobs subject area. This is an area that is in great demand in this down economy. Patrons need this kind of hands-on help right now and making information available freely can really change people’s lives,” said Dorothy Tolliver, president, Maui Friends of the Library.

Patrons can also access free internet service on more than 300 newly-installed computers which were provided by the Broadband Technology Opportunities Program, funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, and leveraged with Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation Opportunity Online funds. Skilled and knowledgeable library staffs are available to assist.
