A 35-year-old man was airlifted from the mountains above Kahakuloa Village on Thursday (October 27, 2011) after suffering a broken leg, said Maui Fire Department officials.
The man was working with his uncle in the river above Kahakuloa Village when the incident occurred, said Maui Fire Services Chief Lee Mainaga.
Rescue crews were dispatched at 10:23 a.m. and the Fire Department’s Air-1 helicopter was on scene at 10:44 a.m.
The incident was reported about one mile from a residence located near mile marker 15 of the Kahekili Highway.

The man was airlifted from Kahakuloa to a landing zone near Camp Maluhia where medics were standing by. Crews then transported the man to the Maui Memorial Medical Center for further treatment.
