The fire was reported during the high school football game between Maui High School and Lahainaluna, taking place at the nearby War Memorial Football Stadium.

Engine-1 from Wailuku, and Rescue-10 from Kahului responded to the scene.  The first unit arrived at 7:42 p.m. and crews had the fire fully extinguished by 8:49 p.m.

Maui Fire officials say the fire started in a rubbish can, and then spread to the structure.
