A 36-foot sailboat was towed to Manele Bay on Lanai after it began taking on water late Monday night.

Two people aboard (one male and one female) began evacuating themselves from the boat onto their dingy as they awaited help from the Coast Guard and Maui Fire Department.

The incident was reported at around 11:34 p.m., about one mine off of Lanai’s Kaumalapau Harbor.

Crews from Engine-8 on Lanai monitored the lights from the “Dove” vessel from shore until Coast Guard crews arrived, according to authorities.

The Coast Guard assisted in pumping water from the boat and securing it so the passengers could reboard the vessel.

At around 3 a.m., crews were able to tow the sailboat to Manele Bay so it could be docked for repairs.
