Maui Receives Award for Financial Reporting
By Wendy Osher
The County of Maui is the recipient of a prestigious award for governmental accounting and management.
The Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting was issued by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada.
The award is the highest form of recognition for government accounting, and was issued for Maui’s CAFR or comprehensive annual financial report.
Maria Zielinski, the Accounting System Administrator with the Maui Department of Finance was identified as the person primarily responsible for preparing the document.
The CAFR document was judged on the spirit of full disclosure, to clearly communicate the county’s financial story, and to motivate potential users to read the document.
The Government Finance Officers Association is a nonprofit professional association serving approximately 17,500 government finance professionals.
