Two people were stabbed during an altercation in the Kahului Harbor area near Cary & Eddie’s Hideaway restaurant on Tuesday night.

Both victims suffered non-life threatening wounds during the December 6, 2011 incident, according to Maui Police Lt. John Jakubczak with the Criminal Investigation Division.

A 30-year-old male suspect who was fishing in the area was arrested for alleged assault in the second degree, and was released pending further investigation.

The man is accused of utilizing a knife blade from a Leatherman tool to allegedly stab one victim in the back area, and another victim twice in the leg, according to police.

Authorities say they are investigating conflicting accounts of what happened and the events that triggered the stabbings; but say there seemed to have been an altercation between two groups.

The group was initially estimated at 15 people, but authorities say three people have been identified as actually having been involved in the incident.
