Mimi DesJardins Selected to Fill Maui Judicial Vacancy

Chief Justice Mark E. Recktenwald today appointed Mimi DesJardins to fill a judicial vacancy in the District Court of the Second Circuit on Maui.

DesJardins fills the vacancy created by the elevation of former District Court Judge Rhonda Lai Loo on Maui.

DesJardins has served as a part-time judge of the District Court of the Second Circuit since 2006.

She is currently a solo practitioner in private practice, specializing in family law and criminal defense.

DesJardins previously served in capacities as Deputy Corporation Counsel, Deputy Public Defender and Deputy Prosecuting Attorney on Maui.

She received her law degree from the University of Puget Sound School of Law in 1989.

The selection is still subject to State Senate confirmation.

The term is for six years with the Chief Justice having the discretion of assigning her to the district or district family court calendar.

The selection was made from a list of nominees submitted by the Judicial Selection Commission that also included: Michelle L. Drewyer; Adrianne H. Heely; Adriel S.C. Menor; Richard A. Priest, Jr.; and Douglas J. Sameshima.
