The West Maui “Canoe Park” Association hosts the third in a series of meetings this Thursday, February 2, 2012, as they seek the establishment of a water or canoe park for ocean goers.

The group was formed in honor of William Kalanikai “Uncle Billy” Gonzales, who suffered fatal injuries in a boating accident in December at Hanakaoo Beach in Lahaina.

Members of the group are working to assist elected officials in organizing a cohesive approach to the establishment of the safe park; and drafting friendly language to be considered for legislation.

The meeting takes place at 5 p.m. on Feb. 2, at the Lahaina Civic Center Amphitheater.

All are welcome and encouraged to attend to share thoughts and concerns.
