BRIEF: Abercrombie Appoints Giugni to Aiea State House Seat

Governor Neil Abercrombie today announced the appointment of Heather Haunani Giugni to the state House of Representatives for the ‘Aiea district.

In addition to ‘Aiea, District 33 also encompasses ‘Aiea Heights, Halawa Heights, Halawa Valley and Red Hill.

Giugni fills the vacancy left by the departure of Rep. Tom Okamura, who stepped down for health reasons.

Giugni is the owner of Juniroa Productions, and  has more than 25 years of film and video experience.

Her work history includes live production of broadcasts for the Kamehameha Schools Song Contest and the Merrie Monarch Hula Festival. She also serves as a producer and mentor for PBS Hawaii’s Hiki No program produced by Hawaii high school students.

She has worked on numerous documentaries that have highlighted history, culture and traditions of Hawai’i.

“In addition, her skills and appreciation of modern technology and communication will be valuable assets to the legislature,” said Gov. Abercrombie in a statement today.

“I look forward to serving the community and following in the footsteps of those leaders who represented this special district,” said Giugni.
