When firefighters arrived on scene at 1:52 p.m., smoke was seen coming from the corner of the patio of a third floor unit, said Maui Fire Services Chief Lee Mainaga.

A female within the unit was aroused from a nap by neighbors pounding on her door, said Chief Mainaga.  No injuries were reported, but the fire resulted in total losses of $1,000.

Before firefighters arrived, a resident manager and Maui Police personnel had attempted to put out the blaze with fire extinguishers.
