OHA Land Deal Headed For Final Vote

A land proposal deal between the State and the Office of Hawaiian Affairs heads for a final vote in the House.

The $200 million deal calls for the transfer of 10 parcels of land in Kaka’ako from the state to OHA to help in resolving longstanding claims for past due revenues.

The item advanced to the full house after gaining unanimous approval in the House Finance committee on Thursday.

If approved by the House, the bill would be sent to the Governor to be signed into law.

Revenues from the acquisition, OHA officials say, could potentially provide them with an economic boost to help fund community-based programs aimed at improving conditions for Native Hawaiians.
