Maui Youth Philharmonic Orchestras to Perform Spring Concert

The Maui Youth Philharmonic Orchestra and Sinfonietta present their annual Spring Concert on Sunday, April 22 at 3 p.m. at the Baldwin High School auditorium.
The free concert features intermediate and advanced student musicians ages 9 to 17 on strings, woodwind, brass and percussion instruments.
Both orchestras are conducted by Lance Jo.
The Philharmonic Orchestra, comprised of advanced student musicians, will perform the following selections: Mozart’s Overture from “The Marriage of Figaro,” “Concerto for Oboe and Strings in D Minor,” “Anvil Chorus” from Il Trovatore, “Poem for Orchstra,” the second movement of “Concerto No. 2 for Marimba,” “Blue Tango,” and “Symphonic Reflections of Andrew Lloyd Webber.”
Featured soloists are seniors Sharon Nakama in the “Concerto for Oboe and Strings in D Minor,” and Skyler Mendoza in the “Concerto No. 2 for Marimba.”
The intermediate-level Sinfonietta Orchestra will perform “Engines of Resistance,” Beethoven’s “Pastoral Symphony” (from Symphony #6), “Folk Songs of the British Isles,” and “Rock Around the Clock.”
The Philharmonic Orchestra will also be performing as part of the Parade of Bands in the the Maui District High School Band Festival on Friday, April 29 at the Maui High School Gym at 7 p.m. The Festival continues on Saturday, April 30, with guest conductors of the Honor Band and Massed Band starting at 7 p.m.
