Hawaii All-Stars Cheer for Underage Drinking Prevention
By Wendy Osher
The Hawaii All-Stars cheerleading team participated in a “Be A Jerk” sticker shock and sign-waving campaign this weekend at the Minit Stop on Main Street in Wailuku.
“Be A Jerk” is an award-winning campaign launched to reduce youth access to alcohol by changing community practice, knowledge and policy.
Event organizers say the campaign uses a model of intervention called Communities Mobilizing Change on Alcohol, which focuses on community organizing efforts to change the environment that contribute to the use of alcohol.
The Hawaii All-Stars is a competitive all-star cheerleading team, and 2012 state and national champions. They participated in the event to raise awareness and support the community that has supported them.
The event was one in a series of Be A Jerk initiatives planned throughout the month at various locations across the county.
