Stolen Computer Photographs Suspect in Kihei
By Rodney S. Yap
It has emerged that The Paradise Gardens Condominium on South Kihei Road was the scene of another crime within a day of an apparent stabbing incident early Monday morning.
A tenant in building “B” reported that his apartment was broken into on early Sunday morning, and missing was a MacBook Air laptop computer, an iPad3, a Time Capsule wireless router and six Corona beers.
The tenant says he was asleep in the apartment during the break-in, as the suspect(s) climbed up to the second floor lanai and entered through the sliding door.
Police were called to the complex but did not find a suspect. However, a program in the stolen MacBook computer, “VUWER,” captured a photo of a suspect after he logged in to use it, several hours after the incident was reported to police.
According to the owner of the computer, the picture of the suspect was taken at 3:23 p.m. on Monday. The photo has been delivered to police.
Meanwhile, the stabbing incident has led to a manhunt by the Maui Police Department in search of 19-year-old Sydney N. Elaban-Paoa, who got into an argument with a 21-year-old male in the parking lot where things escalated and Elaban-Paoa apparently stabbed the man and fled the scene before patrol officers arrived.
Anyone who can identify the person of interest in this image, or has information on the suspect in the stabbing incident, are encouraged to call Maui Crime Stoppers at (808)242-6966.
