Arraignments were held this afternoon for two Wailuku residents charged with second degree murder in the death of a four-year-old Maui boy.

Kyle McKeown, 32, and Grace Lee-Nakamoto, 27, appeared in court today before Maui Second Circuit Judge Richard Bissen.

Preliminary hearings for both defendants has been set for next week Tuesday, June 5, 2012.

Attorneys for both defendants voiced objections to the judicial determination of probable cause document filed by the state, saying there was insufficient evidence to establish probable cause. McKeown’s attorney argued that the timeline of events did not link his client to the cause of injuries.

The charges stem from a May 29, 2012 incident in which the male child was brought in to the Maui Memorial Medical Center for treatment. Police had said the child was brought in by his father after being found unresponsive within the shower of their residence.

Maui police say the child victim had sustained severe blunt force trauma to his internal organs and subsequently succumbed to his injuries early Wednesday morning, May, 30, 2012.

Both McKeown and Lee-Nakamoto were being held on $500,000 each.

At today’s court proceeding, McKeown’s attorney also sought a bail study, which was ordered for the same time and location as the preliminary hearing.

How can you kill your own child???  I dont get it.  I look at my daughters face and there is such innocence.  Even when she is “bad”, at four years old, there is no reason to ever hit your child.  Leave the room if you are frustrated. Its only crying.  The child is only expressing itself.  Such a shame.  That poor child.  I bet this isnt the first time either.

Hmm.  Could there be illegal DRUGS involved?

I have not seen any news reports indicating any gainful employment for either one of these able-bodied adults.

The boy is at peace now.  I wish there was somebody there to help him.  The father and the gf will get what they deserve.  They will have to live with this the rest of their lives.

AAs a grandmother, I wanna hug this baby’s grandmother. OMG. This is the most horrendous .. most ghastly scenario .. and as a grandparent, the most frustrating cause there was no legal way to interfere and the Social Workers are so back-upped, underpaid, and frustrated themselves. But it doesn’t make it right. Even if your voice is heard, they don’t work upon it.

The product of the grandparent’s best ability to parent, is that their unemployed adult off-spring appears to have savagely stomped their grandchild to death, possibly while under the influence of illegal drugs.

Crappy parenting has a real cost to society.

How can you people judge like that? You don’t know them. They’re probably good people that just made a bad choice. They have mothers that love them you know.

Oops, I thought I was posting about Marshall and Marcus Langford, my mistake. These people are scum, they should die!

Das fucked up. Grandma should sue cps….. Cps is as screwed as the parents..

It is proven by the fathers track record that he has abused this poor little child before and he should be held accountable!  However, the GF according to the Star Advertiser has been in his life only for several months.   I think for whatever reason, call it love or stupidity, she is protecting him!  Or who knows, he may be threatening her life as well if she should tell what happenned.   Either way it is messed up.   God be with that little child and their families. :0)  It is so important to make good choices in the company you keep!

I think they should do a hair follicle and then you can get why someone can kill their own child….
