Sports Authority Celebrates Grand Re-Opening

Sports Authority will celebrate the re-design and expansion of its Kahului store with a grand re-opening celebration starting at 8 a.m. on Saturday, June 23.

The re-designed store at the Maui Marketplace has added more than 20,000-sq ft. including expansions in all departments, a new check-out area, a driving cage and putting green.

To commemorate the grand opening, the first 250 guests will receive “Mystery Bucks” ranging from $5 to $500 in value, and all day there will be hourly $100 cash drawings, with one grand prize winner receiving a $1,000 Sports Authority shopping spree.

Sports Authority on Maui is adding 15 additional positions with the opening of the expanded store and With regards to new hires, the store is adding over 15 more positions, and is still hiring, according John McKenna, a spokesman for Sports Authority.

“We are excited to bring our updated look and store design to Maui, as we feel it will allow for Sports Authority to better serve our customers and showcase our products in a more user friendly way,” said Darrell Webb, president and CEO of Sports Authority.

“Baseball is definitely one of our top sports.  With the many youth programs involving baseball, this is one area that we have focused on, including expanding our baseball area in the newly remodeled store,” said Ben Arita, the Hawaii district manager for Sports Authority.

“Archery is an expanding program, in both youth and adult.  We have seen an increase in interest lately, about the same time as a couple of movies that featured archery.”

Soccer continues to be a very active category at Sports Authority as well. “It’s a great youth sport with great participation. Golf is another good area, and we have dramatically expanded this area in the new store.  We have also included a golf simulator, so you can try out the clubs in store,” said Arita.
