A salvage operation to remove a 35-foot sailboat from the reef outside the Lahaina Small Boat Harbor was completed on Monday.

The Parker Marine salvage company had secured heavy lines to the vessel and its mast over the weekend.

By Saturday afternoon, state officials say, crews began pulling the Canadian Baidarka vessel in with a winch to the nearby Kamehameha Iki Park.

By Sunday the boat was up on the beach; and on Monday, a crane placed it on a flatbed truck to remove for disposal, officials said.

The vessel had broken free from its location at the Lahaina Yacht Club mooring a week earlier.
