A groundbreaking ceremony was held yesterday for the MEO Transportation Center in Puunene, Maui.

The event marked the start of construction for the $23 million project that will be built on a 10-acre parcel partially donated by Alexander & Baldwin.

The project is located at the hub of the Hana, Mokulele, and Kuihelani Highways in Kahului.

MEO annually provides over $5 million of specialized transportation services in Maui County.

The agency’s vehicles travel over one million miles annually, and were used to provide almost 300,000 trips last year.
