Search Underway for Missing Teen Swept to Sea
By Wendy Osher
A search resumes this morning for a missing 15-year-old boy who was swept out to sea on Big Island yesterday.
The incident was reported at 5:30 p.m. in an area where the boy was hiking along the shoreline near the Captain Cook monument at Kealakekua Bay.
Initial reports indicate the teen was with a group of people who stopped to rest in a tide pool, when waves swept the boy away.
The Coast Guard searched for the missing boy throughout the night. The fire department was scheduled to return at first light today with a helicopter, rescue boat and dive teams.
The search area is located from the shoreline to a point about five miles out to sea.
