UH-Maui Signs Exchange with Takamatsu University

The University of Hawai’i Maui College has entered into an exchange agreement with Takamatsu University of Japan.

A Memorandum of Intent was signed on Friday, effectively opening the doors for new cultural exchange opportunities.

Officials at UHMC say the agreement seeks to promote international understanding and cooperation, dissemination of learning, strengthening of cultural ties and the establishment of educational and professional programs between the two institutions.

UHMC Chancellor Dr. Clyde Sakamoto joined Takamatsu University President, Dr. Masamichi Tsukuda in signing the agreement.

Upon reaching the MOI, Dr. Sakamoto said the partnership will greatly benefit both institutions. “Preparing students for the challenges and opportunities presented by an increasingly global economic environment is integral for future success,” said Dr. Sakamoto.

The signing took place in the UHMC Leis Family Class Act Dining room, where UHMC faculty gave presentations on the College’s Maui Language Institute and Applied Business & Information Technology programs.

“We’re thrilled to expand opportunities for students on Maui to experience life and education in other countries,” said Maui Language Institute Director Alice Hamilton. “The sister-university agreement will open the door for faculty and student exchange programs, as well as short term visiting groups.”

Takamatsu University is a private university established in 1996 in Kagawa, Japan. The University has both undergraduate and graduate degree programs, with featured departments including the Department of Human Development, the Department of Management, and the Graduate Institute of Business Administration.
