The County of Maui Volunteer Center issued their September Volunteer Hero award to Rhonda Barut of Makawao.
Barut is a volunteer with the American Heart Association’s Maui chapter and the County of Maui Volunteer Center.
“Rhonda’s dedication and leadership, as the 2012 Chair of the American Heart Association’s Maui Local Chapter of the National Go Red for Women Ambassadors catapulted the Local Chapter in the Maui community,” county officials said in a press release.
“Through, staff changes and office closures, Rhonda diligently volunteered creating high awareness GRFW Ambassadors, educating the public of heart disease as the number one cause of death for women today,” according to the release.
Barut is also credited with creating two new events for the Maui GRFW Ambassadors, introducing a photo contest, and assisting with the set up of a website for social media interaction.
At the Volunteer Center, she was credited with launching a Facebook and Twitter account, along with making corrections and improvements to the agency’s website, handsonmaui.com.
Barut was nominated by Kauwela Bisquere, Regional Director of Maui of the American Heart Association who said, “Rhonda motivates me and many more to do more, to be more, to care more for our families, friends and community.”
