Authorities say the 53-year-old man from Utah landed next to a pond where he suffered non-life-threatening injuries to his arms and left ankle.

Hana firefighters on scene, swam across the pond, stabilized the victim onto a backboard, and floated him about 50-feet across the pond, said Maui Fire Services Chief Lee Mainaga.

From there he was loaded into an ambulance and transported by medics to the hospital.
