Wailea and Waianapanapa Win Best in Beach
By Wendy Osher
Maui’s Wailea Beach and Honokalani Black Sand Beach were voted among the best stretches of scenic sand in the world.
The accolades were part of the “best in class” awards issued by Travel + Leisure magazine in the publication’s first-ever reader rankings of the world’s best beaches in six different categories.
In the publication’s January issue, Wailea Beach gets the nod for the best beach for activities including snorkeling, canoeing and boogie boarding excursions.
Maui’s Black Sand Beach in Waianapanapa State Park is the winner for beach with the most dramatic landscape that includes a quarter mile of spiny hala trees, caves, and black sand shoreline.
Also making the list were Polihale Beach on Kauai, and Hapuna Beach on the Big Island of Hawai’i.
