Governor Neil Abercrombie announced the release of $96,000 in Capital Improvement Project funds for infrastructure repairs and upgrades to Maui’s Honoapiilani Highway at the Kaanapali Parkway and Halelo Street intersections.

The funds were secured last session by Representative Angus McKelvey, and were released by the administration as part of an effort to improve safety and efficiency, and address critical infrastructure needs in areas of high traffic.

Rep. McKelvey, whose district includes Lahaina, Maalaea, and North Kihei called the intersection “one of the busiest” in West Maui.

“The roadways which will be receiving attention are essential for both visitor and commuter traffic in the Kaanapali area,” said Rep. McKelvey.  “This funding is necessary not only to improve traffic flow, but most importantly, to ensure the safety of our community,” he said.
